smbone1.jpg (8216 bytes) Bone is the story of four friends who get caught up in a crooked venture to transport illegally obtained genetic material across national borders. It opens with the arrival of Hadley, an airline stewardess, to her home city where she reunites with Paul, an educated guy who, much like many people from his generation, is stuck working for minimum wage in an not so gratifying position, in this case, an interior parking lot. Paul wants out and he tells Hadley about Marty, a friend who’s been involved in small, shady deals for as long as he can remember. But this time, it seems he has an easy, sure-fire scam that could all net them a handsome sum. The idea is to use Hadley’s position as a flight attendant to their advantage in what sounds like a simple go-to and return.

smbone3.jpg (8306 bytes) Skeptical, Hadley nonetheless agrees to meet Marty and subsequently Jaime, his live-in girlfriend, a disturbing beauty who writes poetry in her spare moments and works as a masseuse the rest of the time in a converted room of their apartment. The two women immediately share a feeling of kinship... a feeling which is to survive the disintegration of the other relationships all put to a test in an affair that can only turn wrong.

smbone2.jpg (9028 bytes) There are thus a few risk factors involved, namely a small payload that Hadley must carry in her purse. But the most important obstacle to the deal going through is of another nature: it is the characters’ own doubts and fear of getting caught, a paranoia personified in Frankie, Marty’s underworld link, an eccentric and charismatic weirdo who has his own way of going about and doing things.
